HOW MANY BIRDS? SPACE LIMITATION VS AMBITION - PART 1

Define Your Scale: More birds can mean more profit, but only if you have a specific number in mind. Size Matters: You cannot build the right house until you know exactly how many birds will live in it.

Space Limitations vs. Ambition: A common mistake is planning for 1,000 birds on a plot only suited for a fraction of that size.

Avoid the "Death Trap": For example, a 12ft x 20ft space—even with 3-tier battery cages—can only safely support 350 to 400 birds. Attempting to fit more creates a high-heat environment with poor ventilation, leading to high mortality rates.

Calculate Your Capacity: Before you build, you must know your land's limits.

Determine Your Carrying Capacity: Measure the exact length and width of the space dedicated for the coop using a standard measuring tape (e.g., 20ft x 50ft).

The Density Formula: Multiply the length by the width to find the total square footage. To determine how many birds the space can safely hold, divide that total by the industry standard space allocation per bird—typically 1.6 or 2.0 square feet.

Example Calculation:

•High Density: (20 x 50) \div 1.6 = 625 birds.

•Standard Density: (20 x 50) \div 2.0 = 500 birds.
