When a thriving industry like poultry farming in Ghana—which is currently seeing massive demand for local meat and eggs—faces a shortage of reliable workers and skilled managers, it creates a "Growth Paradox." The market wants to buy, but the farms cannot produce.
On average a bird produces one egg per day. Furthermore, not all birds start to lay exactly when they are 16 weeks old. Planning is therefore required for egg production to be constant so as to meet market demand. In areas where the climate is hot and humid, commercial hybrid laying birds produce on average between 180 and 200 eggs per year. In more temperate climates birds can produce on average between 250 and 300 eggs per year.for 100 birds at 21 weeks of age only five would actually be laying. On average a bird produces 208 eggs over a twelve-month period, which is a weekly production rate of four eggs per bird. At 21 weeks of age 20 eggs are produced (five birds produce four eggs each) and at 22 weeks 40 eggs are produced.

A lot of broiler farmers know why they chose broiler farming, they do not know that what they have chosen requires them to have customers waiting to buy their product. What people don’t know is broiler farmers need to have customers even before they bring the birds, and not just customers, loyal customers who will surely come for the broilers after 2months. You do not bring the birds before you start looking for buyers. Most broiler farmers also don’t know that the longer you take to sell your product the higher the losses especially if you follow the correct feeding plan. broilers need to reach the weight of 2.5 to 3kg within 2 months for a good market price to increase profit. But this does not mean that if you keep long trying to go pass 3kg, you will automatically you get a higher price than what the market if willing to pay.
